How it works & examples

Understand the calculation

How cash-out value is calculated

Full winning payout = original stake × original decimal odds. Expected receipt from holding = current win probability × full winning payout.

If a bookmaker's cash-out offer seems low, compare an executable exchange hedge after fees in Back/Lay Exchange Hedge Calculator with Commission.

Cash-out value difference = offer − expected hold receipt. A negative number means the offer is below your modeled hold value. Haircut = (hold value − offer) / hold value.

Cash-out break-even probability = offer / full winning payout. At that current win probability, cashing out and holding have equal expected receipt.

Expected receipt is not the same as personal utility. Cashing out can reduce variance and liquidity risk even when modeled hold value is higher; conversely, holding can have higher EV while exposing the full position to loss. The calculator prices the trade-off but does not choose your risk tolerance.

Maths & verification

Compare a sportsbook cash-out offer with the expected hold value of your open bet using your current win-probability estimate.

How to use the tool

Decide whether a sportsbook cash-out offer is expensive or attractive relative to your own current probability estimate.

  1. Enter the original stake and decimal odds to recover the full winning payout.
  2. Enter the current cash-out offer and your updated estimate of the probability that the bet eventually wins.
  3. Compare the guaranteed cash-out amount with the expected receipt from holding, then inspect the haircut and break-even probability.

Understanding your result

A 100 stake at 3.00 has a 300 gross winning payout. If the cash-out offer is 150 and your current win estimate is 60%, hold value is 0.60 × 300 = 180. The offer is 30 below that modeled value, a 16.67% haircut to hold value.

Scope and limitations

The calculator does not estimate the live probability for you. Cash-out availability can change instantly, partial cash-outs and dead heats are not modeled, and settlement rules can alter the real payout.

Before you rely on the result

Cash out calculator: sportsbook offer vs fair hold value

Sportsbook cash-out offers turn an uncertain future payout into guaranteed cash now. The useful question is not whether the offer is above your original stake, but whether it is attractive relative to the bet’s current expected value.

This calculator leaves the hardest input — current win probability — to you, then makes the cash-out pricing transparent.

Cash-out haircut measures the price of certainty

If modeled hold value is 180 and the sportsbook offers 150, the 30 difference is the price paid for certainty in this simplified comparison.

Break-even probability gives a clean decision threshold

For a 300 full payout and 150 cash-out offer, break-even probability is 50%. Above 50% hold has higher modeled expected receipt; below 50% the cash-out offer is higher.

Live probability is the main uncertainty

The calculator cannot infer injury news, game state, market movement or hidden information. A precise output from a poor probability estimate is still a poor decision model.

Questions about this calculation

What is cash-out break-even probability?

It is cash-out offer divided by full winning payout. If your true current win probability is above that threshold, holding has higher expected receipt in this simple model.

Why compare receipt rather than only profit?

The original stake is already committed at the time of the decision, so cash out versus hold is most directly compared using future cash received from each choice.

When is Sportsbook Cash Out Value Calculator the right tool?

Decide whether a sportsbook cash-out offer is expensive or attractive relative to your own current probability estimate.

How should I read the result from Sportsbook Cash Out Value Calculator?

A 100 stake at 3.00 has a 300 gross winning payout. If the cash-out offer is 150 and your current win estimate is 60%, hold value is 0.60 × 300 = 180. The offer is 30 below that modeled value, a 16.67% haircut to hold value.

What can Sportsbook Cash Out Value Calculator not tell me?

The calculator does not estimate the live probability for you. Cash-out availability can change instantly, partial cash-outs and dead heats are not modeled, and settlement rules can alter the real payout.
