Dutching Calculator: Split Stakes Across Outcomes
Enter the odds of selected outcomes and a total stake budget. Allocate equal gross payouts across covered selections; uncovered outcomes can lose the full stake.
How it works & examplesUnderstand the calculation
Equal returns on selected outcomes are not full protection
Dutching allocates different stakes so the covered selections produce the same gross return. With decimal odds of 3.00 and 4.00 and a 70-unit budget, staking 40 and 30 returns 120 whichever of those two selections wins. The covered net result is 50 after subtracting the whole 70-unit budget.
Equal payouts over selected outcomes do not prove that all results are covered; check full-market prices with Arbitrage Calculator: Stakes and Theoretical Return.
If some other result can win, the entire budget can still be lost. The attractive covered return is therefore not by itself an arbitrage opportunity. Use mutually exclusive selections and read both the covered and uncovered result. Actual stake increments and rounding can make the achieved returns slightly unequal, so the calculated allocation is a plan rather than a guarantee of execution.
Maths & verification
Split a betting budget across 2–6 chosen decimal odds for equal gross returns. Check covered profit and loss when another outcome wins.

How to use the tool
Dutching divides your stake among selected selections to target the same gross return when any chosen selection wins.
- Enter the decimal odds for two to six selected outcomes.
- Set the full budget you want to allocate across those outcomes.
- Check each stake, equalized gross return, net result if covered, and possible full loss if not covered.
Understanding your result
At odds 3.00 and 4.00 with a 70-unit budget, stakes of 40 and 30 produce 120 units gross return whichever selected outcome wins; covered profit is 50.
Scope and limitations
This is selective dutching, not arbitrage across every possible result. Uncovered outcomes lose the full staked amount. Mutually exclusive selections, execution at entered odds, currency consistency and matching settlement rules are assumed.

Dutching calculator: equal-return stakes across selected outcomes
Dutching distributes a fixed budget across selected outcomes so that each covered winner returns approximately the same gross amount.
For selected decimal odds d_i and total budget B, allocation_i = B × (1/d_i) / Σ(1/d). This is the same equal-return weighting used in arbitrage maths, but dutching can intentionally leave other outcomes uncovered.
Example with decimal odds 3.00 and 4.00
The inverse sum is 1/3 + 1/4 = 0.58333. With a 70-unit budget, equal-return stakes are 40 and 30. Either selected winner returns 120 gross.
| Selected outcome | Odds | Stake | Gross return |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 3.00 | 40.00 | 120.00 |
| B | 4.00 | 30.00 | 120.00 |
Covered profit and uncovered loss are different outputs
In the example, a covered winner yields 120 gross on 70 staked, or 50 net profit. But if another possible market outcome was not included, the uncovered result loses the full 70. Equalizing selected returns does not make the overall market risk-free.
Dutching is not automatically arbitrage
Dutching can be used when the selected inverse-odds sum is below, equal to or above 1. Only a complete market with inverse sum below 1 meets the mathematical arbitrage condition.
Split a stake across several outcomes
Use this when
You want a similar gross return if any selected outcome wins.
Read the result like this
Compare the total implied probability and the resulting return; dutching can equalize payout without creating positive EV.
Common mistake
Equal payout is not the same as a profitable market.
Questions about this calculation
Does dutching guarantee profit?
No. Only a selected outcome pays in this model. Any uncovered outcome loses the total allocated stake.
How is it different from arbitrage?
Arbitrage checks full market coverage and pricing; this tool explicitly supports partial coverage and shows the uncovered loss.
When is Dutching Calculator: Split Stakes Across Outcomes the right tool?
Dutching divides your stake among selected selections to target the same gross return when any chosen selection wins.
How should I read the result from Dutching Calculator: Split Stakes Across Outcomes?
At odds 3.00 and 4.00 with a 70-unit budget, stakes of 40 and 30 produce 120 units gross return whichever selected outcome wins; covered profit is 50.
What can Dutching Calculator: Split Stakes Across Outcomes not tell me?
This is selective dutching, not arbitrage across every possible result. Uncovered outcomes lose the full staked amount. Mutually exclusive selections, execution at entered odds, currency consistency and matching settlement rules are assumed.
