Mines Calculator: Odds, Multipliers and Virtual Play

Choose 1–24 mines and a cash-out depth to compare exact survival probability, next-pick risk and model payout. The calculator cannot reveal hidden mine positions.

How it works & examples

Understand the calculation

Mines odds: survival, the next tile and cashing out

Use the Mines calculator to compare a planned number of safe picks with the progress of a round you are actually playing. These are different questions. On a new 25-tile board with three mines, the chance that the first selected tile is safe is 22/25, or 88%. After a safe pick, 21 of the 24 remaining tiles are safe: the next-pick chance is 87.5%, while the chance of achieving both safe picks from the start is 77%.

Surviving hidden tiles differs from counting matching numbers; compare the draw mathematics with Keno Odds Calculator: 40 Numbers, 10 Draws.

The headline follows the safe tiles opened in the current round. Changing the planned target changes the separate planning result; it does not reveal where mines are. A cash-out amount is a gross return, so subtract the stake to find profit. Hitting a mine makes the actual round payout zero. Use the board to understand conditional probability, not to predict a real casino board.

Probability explained

Mines odds: how to read this result

On a 25-tile board, the probability of K safe picks with M mines is C(25 − M, K) / C(25, K). Three mines and two picks give a 77% survival chance. The displayed gross multiplier assumes a synthetic 99% RTP.

How to interpret the result

The target-picks percentage describes surviving the entire sequence; “next tile safe” describes only the next unopened cell. Virtual cash-out is not a prediction of any casino round.

What this calculation cannot tell you: Hidden mine positions cannot be inferred. The example payout does not reproduce the Stake Mines paytable.

How to use the tool

Use the Mines probability calculator to compare the risk of choosing more safe tiles, not to guess hidden mine positions.

  1. Select between 1 and 24 mines on the 5×5 grid.
  2. Choose a virtual stake and start a round; open tiles or cash out.
  3. Compare the chance of surviving your next pick with the gross model multiplier.

Understanding your result

For three mines, the chance of surviving two picks is (22/25) × (21/24) = 77%. A 99% teaching RTP produces a 1.2857× gross payout for this event.

Scope and limitations

The demo does not know where mines are placed in any external game. Its payout curve is synthetic and should not be described as the Stake Mines paytable.

Before you rely on the result

Mines odds, multipliers and cash-out risk

Mines has two probabilities worth separating: the chance of surviving all picks up to your planned cash-out point, and the chance that only the next unopened tile is safe. The first shrinks with every extra pick; the second changes after each safe reveal because the number of unopened tiles falls while the mines remain hidden.

For a 25-tile board with M mines and K safe picks, the exact survival probability is C(25 − M, K) / C(25, K). In this teaching model the gross multiplier is 0.99 divided by that probability, so the 99% RTP stays constant while variance changes.

Three mines: what changes as you keep picking

With three mines, one safe pick succeeds 88% of the time. Five safe picks succeed about 49.57% of the time, while fifteen safe picks succeed only about 5.22%. The multiplier rises because the successful sequence becomes rarer; the expected return does not improve simply because the displayed payout is larger.

Next-tile chance is not the same as cash-out probability

After two safe picks with three mines, 23 tiles remain unopened: 20 safe tiles and 3 mines. The next pick is therefore safe with probability 20/23 = 86.96%. That does not mean the chance of having survived all three picks from the start is 86.96%; the three-pick sequence is about 66.96%.

This distinction matters when reading a live round. “Next tile safe” describes one conditional decision from the current board state. “Survive K picks” prices the complete path from the start of the round.

What a Mines calculator cannot reverse-engineer

Exact combinatorics can price a board configuration, but they cannot reveal where hidden mines are. An operator can also apply a different RTP, rounding rule, payout cap or paytable, so a mathematical fair multiplier should not be presented as an operator quote. Use the calculator to understand risk and payout relationships, not to predict a specific hidden layout.

Worked example

With 3 mines on a 25-tile board, two successful picks have probability C(22,2)/C(25,2) = 231/300 = 77%. A 99% payout model would return approximately 1.2857x gross after two safe picks.

Can this calculator tell me which tile is safe?

No. It calculates the chance of surviving a chosen number of picks; it cannot identify the unseen mine positions.

Questions about this calculation

Does removing one safe tile change the chance of the next pick?

Yes. With m mines still hidden and t tiles unopened, the next-pick survival chance is (t − m)/t.

Can two games with identical mine counts have different payouts?

Yes. Operators may use different payout multipliers, fees and rule sets even if their boards have the same mathematical probability.

When is Mines Calculator: Safe-Tile Odds and Virtual Play the right tool?

Use the Mines probability calculator to compare the risk of choosing more safe tiles, not to guess hidden mine positions.

How should I read the result from Mines Calculator: Safe-Tile Odds and Virtual Play?

For three mines, the chance of surviving two picks is (22/25) × (21/24) = 77%. A 99% teaching RTP produces a 1.2857× gross payout for this event.

What can Mines Calculator: Safe-Tile Odds and Virtual Play not tell me?

The demo does not know where mines are placed in any external game. Its payout curve is synthetic and should not be described as the Stake Mines paytable.
