Roulette Odds Calculator: European Payouts and Virtual Spins
Compare straight-up, color, parity and dozen bets on a 37-pocket European wheel. See exact probability, payout and house edge before running virtual spins.
How it works & examplesUnderstand the calculation
European roulette payouts: return is not profit
This simulator uses a 37-pocket wheel: numbers 1–36 plus one zero. A straight-number selection therefore has one winning pocket out of 37. Red or black has 18 winning pockets, not half the wheel, because zero belongs to neither colour bet.
Roulette outcome probabilities need a payout table to become a house-edge estimate; check that in RTP & House Edge Calculator: Expected Session Cost.
For a one-unit straight bet paying 36 units gross on success, expected return is 36/37, approximately 97.30%. A two-unit gross return on red gives 18/37 × 2, the same expectation with a different win frequency. Compare selection types to see how volatility changes. A betting progression can change the sequence of stakes, but it does not change the wheel probabilities used here.

Model assumptions: No. Virtual games use declared teaching models. Verify any actual operator’s payout rules independently.
European roulette: exact odds by bet type
A single-zero wheel has 37 equally likely outcomes. One straight-up number wins 1/37 (2.70%), red or black wins 18/37 (48.65%), and a dozen wins 12/37 (32.43%).
How to interpret the result
The “gross multiplier” includes the original virtual stake: 36× for a straight-up number, 2× for a color, and 3× for a dozen. The standard single-zero house edge is about 2.70%.
What this calculation cannot tell you: This is not an American double-zero wheel or a prediction based on previous spins.
How to use the tool
Spin a 37-pocket European Roulette wheel and compare bet types using exact single-zero odds.
- Choose a straight number, red/black, parity or one of three dozens.
- Enter a virtual stake and spin or simulate 100 independent outcomes.
- Compare win chance, gross payout and the mathematical 2.70% house edge.
Understanding your result
A straight-up number wins with probability 1/37 = 2.70% and pays 36× gross; red wins with 18/37 = 48.65% and pays 2× gross. Both have expected net return −1/37 per unit staked.
Scope and limitations
This page models the single-zero European game, not American double-zero roulette or live casino tables. Roulette systems cannot remove the mathematical house edge.

European roulette odds, payouts and house edge by bet type
This simulator uses a European single-zero wheel with 37 equally likely pockets. The win probability of a standard bet is simply the number of covered pockets divided by 37. Standard payouts are lower than fair odds because the green zero creates the house edge.
Gross return includes the original stake. A 35:1 straight-up payout therefore returns 36× gross on a win; a 1:1 red bet returns 2× gross. With standard European payouts both carry the same 1/37 ≈ 2.70% house edge.
European roulette probability and payout table
Changing bet type changes hit frequency and variance, not the standard single-zero house edge.
| Bet type | Numbers covered | Win probability | Net payout | House edge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Straight up | 1 | 2.70% | 35:1 | 2.70% |
| Split | 2 | 5.41% | 17:1 | 2.70% |
| Street | 3 | 8.11% | 11:1 | 2.70% |
| Corner | 4 | 10.81% | 8:1 | 2.70% |
| Six line | 6 | 16.22% | 5:1 | 2.70% |
| Dozen / column | 12 | 32.43% | 2:1 | 2.70% |
| Red / black, odd / even | 18 | 48.65% | 1:1 | 2.70% |
Why red is not a 50/50 bet
Red covers 18 pockets and black covers 18, but zero is green. Red therefore wins 18/37 = 48.6486% of spins and loses on the other 19/37. With a 1:1 net payout, expected net result per unit staked is (18/37 × 1) − (19/37 × 1) = −1/37, or about −2.70%.
European versus American roulette
American roulette adds 00 for 38 pockets. A straight number then wins 1/38 = 2.63% and an even-money bet wins 18/38 = 47.37%. With the same standard payouts the common house edge becomes 2/38 ≈ 5.26%. This page models only the 37-pocket European wheel and does not include la partage, en prison or side bets.
Worked example
In European single-zero roulette, red covers 18 of 37 equally likely pockets: 18/37 = 48.65%. At a 2x gross payout, the mathematical expected return is 36/37, leaving a 2.70% house edge.
Does red become more likely after a long black streak?
No. Under the independent ideal-wheel model, red still covers 18 of 37 pockets on every spin.
Questions about this calculation
Is a red bet 50/50?
No. The green zero means red has 18 winning pockets out of 37, not one half.
What changes on an American roulette wheel?
An American double-zero wheel has 38 pockets. Its standard house edge is 2/38, about 5.26%, not the 2.70% shown here.
When is European Roulette Simulator and Odds Calculator the right tool?
Spin a 37-pocket European Roulette wheel and compare bet types using exact single-zero odds.
How should I read the result from European Roulette Simulator and Odds Calculator?
A straight-up number wins with probability 1/37 = 2.70% and pays 36× gross; red wins with 18/37 = 48.65% and pays 2× gross. Both have expected net return −1/37 per unit staked.
What can European Roulette Simulator and Odds Calculator not tell me?
This page models the single-zero European game, not American double-zero roulette or live casino tables. Roulette systems cannot remove the mathematical house edge.
